The Super Bowl and Electric Football

Super Bowl Electric Football Game sets have long been the favorite of generations of ELELCTRIC FOOTBALL players and collectors. The first “Official” Super Bowl Electric Football Game produced was in 1969 when Tudor introduced the Super Bowl III model complete with the Jets and Colts.

The next year they produced the Super Bowl IV model with the Chiefs and Vikings.

These two Super Bowl Game sets began a tradition of producing game sets with the previous year’s Super Bowl participants that lasted for the next 35 years.   AFL – NFL Super Bowl Games are probably the most sought after by collectors but there is one “Unofficial” and rarer Super Bowl Game set that was produced by Tudor for Otasco in 1968. The thing that makes the Super Bowl II and IV models collectibles are that they feature the Super Bowl Trophy logo at midfield, and these are the only AFL -NFL Super Bowl Models produced. The next year with the merger of the AFL and NFL, the Super Bowl V model with the Colts and Cowboys still featured the Trophy logo at midfield and came with some extras-team pennants and a 24- page history of the Super Bowl booklet making this game more collectable also.

The next year the game board designs became more generic but still featured the teams from each year and in the uniforms worn in the actual games.

Which gets me to the main purpose of this post.

While doing some recent research, I came across this very interesting article and what makes it so interesting is that although Tudor began producing team end zone names that could be added to gameboards in the late 1970’s and vinyl adhesive and magnetic field covers are now commonplace, here is someone who was using his electric football game board to make his fields look just like the Super Bowl fields in the 1990’s.

It never ceases to amaze me, the creativity that electric football has inspired for the many people who play and enjoy this great hobby.
