Solitaire Leagues

Solitaire is playing the game in a single player format where the person actually playing the game is “coaching” both teams on the field simultaneously acting as offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and referee all at the same time.

It is the most popular way to enjoy the game and hobby and gives more people the opportunity to participate in the game and hobby on a daily basis than any other form of the game and hobby.

It is hard to say when the first Solitaire Electric Football League was created. For me, personally, it was 1970, not long after I got my first game of electric football. It was the Tudor Model 520 AFL ELECTRIC FOOTBALL Game set with the Jets and Chiefs. I soon added the Vikings, Raiders, Dolphins and Colts to create my own 6 team Solitaire EFL. I played 1o seasons with these teams concluding each season with a postseason Superbowl and All-Star Game. I kept a notebook with the scoring summaries of each game which was lost a long time ago. This covered a period of about 3 years until I got older and life begin to happen and the game was put up into the closet never to be seen again.

In 1997 I received another game of electric football. It was a Miggle Toys / Tudor Games Model 6072 Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers and Patriots and again began adding teams to create another Solitaire EFL. I was as diligent about keeping records as I had been before because it was after then that I began to become more interested in playing in tournament and leagues, painting and selling teams and collecting games, teams in figures.

But still my first love was playing solitaire, and I did continue to create several more solitaire leagues and play more solitaire games.

In 2012, along with another solitaire coach, Derrick Gross, we created the first national competition for Solitaire Coaches, The Solitaire Coaches Points Challenge or SCPC. To go along with this, we created and published the online magazines “Solitaire Illustrated” and “SCPC Gameday” to document the history of this competition.
